i dont know about the rest but if you dont weld it, eventually it will pop out. even rivets, or fiber glass will come out and crack around the edges. heat expansion and slaming shut will cause it to fail. take the doors to a shop and have it welded. just my opinion and experience. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

You can soldier a filler plate with 60/40 and if you ever want to go back, just heat it up! It'll be just like leading.

Here might be a place to use small panel epox. It's being use more and more in the shops these days.

oh yeah! So what do most do about getting into there cars? I thought 2 ways, either have the expensive stuff with beeper to pop open the doors? Or have an alarm and convert my windows to automatics and just reach in and open the doors... Hmmm either way I think would be an expensive project... not sure what i should do.

I was thinking about shaving mine (my door handels http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif ) and came to the conclusion it may be more trouble than it's worth.

You need power locks, and if the battery dies, you need a "manual release" hooked up to one door. I was also toying with the idea of installing a "push button" in the door, but the idea of needing power to open the thing just turned me off.

Just imagine showing off how cool the doors are and killing your battery in the process. That would not be cool.

Besides, chrome is cool http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Get an alarm with a extra channels to open each door seperately. Wire in extra leads from each door to a hidden plug. If your battery dies, you can put a jumper cables to the plug to pop the doors open.

Im not trying to say that shaving the door handles is a bad thing but my $.02 is that the door handles on these cars is a big styling touch that is now long gone. Look around at the newer cars plain plastic door handles tucked into the body (a lot of times even break!!). Our door handles are big, chrome and very handsome! Its one of the many styling touches that are long gone with these new "cars". Just be sure if you ever want to go back to make the mod. where it is reversable to save the trouble of finding new doors. Good Luck!
