64-72

Howdy, I go by 64-72, I've pretty much grown up on this site through different allias' since 1999 when I was 16 years old. Had 2 Chevelles, a 13880 '68 Elky (seriously), a 72 Nova and now I'm the proud owner of a stripped to mere pieces '72 Malibu. Although I concider my self a lunitic about Chevelle history and drivetrain knowledge, I have 0% experience in dealing with body and paint. I have an understanding of the basic mechanics of sanding and spraying, but no idea whats-so-ever about the differences of primers (epoxy...etc...) or even where to get them. I know there is always the rattle can but I would rather jump off a bridge then go that route. Last week I bought a strong Craftsman compressor, a 6'' D.A. sander, and removed every body part off of the car except the quaters and floor pans (windows are out, trim...etc..). So, thats the story so far...if anyone is left reading this I will continue with the question :D What type of grit sand paper do you guys use to start in on the metal to get it bare? Afterwards, what should I shoot onto it directly after it is stripped? Where do I get this substance from? And with what type of paint sprayer? Do they have certain specifications beyond CFM that I need to know? I have looked at some in Sears/Lowe's and good 'ol Harbor freight, many to choose from. I hope tese questions are not too general as well. I am dedicated 110% to this project and nothing will stop me, so no worries on being "over-whelmed". Also, I am not looking for this car to win trophies for looks either, if I can stop the rust and achieve a "its as good as MACCO would have done" sort of look I have done my job ;) Thanks to all who post their valuable information. I'll put up a site soon with pictures and possibly a step by step (w/ pics) guide of how I did things.
P.S.: 6+ years of this site giving priceless and valuable knowledge, thanks to all who participate and pitch in, it's 11:30PM here and theres work tomarrow, but after that you can count me in for full membership, its the least I can do for the awsome service provided by this site.
