Hi all,

Finally starting to tackle the job of patching a rusty area of my trunk on my 66 300 Deluxe. I have a couple questions for those of you who have performed this job before.

I ordered the "partial trunk floor repair section" (left side with partial body brace attached) from OPG a few years back. I noticed on my original trunk floor that the partial body brace (with the body mount hole) overlaps the trunk pan brace. The patch panel actually extends a few inches beyond the brace. Should I drill out the spot welds on the patch, trim it and overlap the new brace over the trunk brace like the factory did?

Also, where the partial brace, the body brace ahead of that one (under rear seat), AND where the trunk floor meets the inner wheel house, it is rusting. I was browsing through the OPG catalog and I don't see an inner wheel house listed. I only need the bottom 1/4 portion (or so) anyway. BUT I noticed that OPG does have an inner wheel house patch kit. The description reads: "This section of trunk floor is exactly contoured to the inner wheelhouse. Great to use when replacing rusted wheelhouse as an alternative to replacing the entire trunk floor." So which is it? A wheel house patch or a trunk floor patch? I apologize if the answer is obvious, but I don't see it, and the pic of the patch kit looks nothing like my wheel houses (maybe they're for a 68-72).

If any of you have encountered these rust problem areas in the past, I appreciate any and all advice you have. If anyone knows of any publications or websites that illustrate this repair, feel free to chime in also.

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.

Love those 66 300 deluxes.... I had mine done years ago. I think the guy just fabed in some metal around the corners of the wheel well and floor. sorry not much help. Might check with Goodmark to see what's available from them. Hopefully someone else will chime in.... :waving:

Thanks for the reply flywheel. I'm thinking I may have to fab up my own patches for the inner wheelhouse. But I would prefer to purchase one stamped from a die. The compound curves in the metal would be very difficult for someone like me to produce.

By the way, that's a sharp 300 Deluxe you have there flywheel!
