: "Bondo" what's in a name? I need your help
MARTINSR Jan 13th, 03, 8:53 PM Guys, when I do my "Basics" I want to be sure that I use the correct terminology. I am thinking that maybe there is different slangs around the country that I should be including so everyone will be up to speed. If you hear in your neck of the woods a name other than the following, please let me know. Not a name like you may use, but a regularly used name in the area. Thanks
Plastic filler
Bondo
Mud
body filler
Hardener
activator
cream hardener

jon65 Jan 13th, 03, 9:01 PM Bondo is a common term here in Illinois.
more ambition than brains Jan 13th, 03, 9:12 PM I tend to be a little anal when it comes to the use of the B word. It seems to have many bad connotations for the consumer when discussing its use. I would favor the term "chemical filler"-- "polyester filler"--or metal, or fibreglass impregnated filler. I am VERY biased, but it takes the thought process from under the "Oak Tree" and moves it into the current times. The Collision and Restoration Industry needs to constantly reaffirm our professionalism. Sorry I am off my "Soap Box" now. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif Karl
MARTINSR Jan 13th, 03, 9:26 PM Karl, I am with you. I only use the "B" word so I am understood that the subject is ployester body filler. Or plastic filler. I do use the "B" word sometimes out of laziness, but I am with you.

I know, not to be confused with "glazing" or "spot", but I hear it used a lot. Then again, I'm no pro.
Cheers,
mark.

http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif, I like to say "Chevy in a can" or "toyota in can" what ever car I am working on.
You know the great car builder John Buttera said one time about how he made his billit aluminum mirrors on his car (This was the first billit aluminum part on a street rod, about 1978). He said "I simply got a chunk of aluminum and cut off everything that didn't look like a mirror" http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
So I steal that from Buttera and say you spread the filler on and sand off everything that doesn't look like the car. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
