Well, I called my local body shop to see if they could paint my fenders after I pick them up tomorrow. I told them that I wanted the color to be Mohave Gold. He asked me if I wanted the BC/CC paint system. I said yes and then asked about a price with a different paint system. He said that BC/CC and enamel will cost the same. So then I asked the price. He quoted me around $300 for the pair. He said $150 for labor and $150 for materials. Is that a bad price? What would you do?
Thanks

That sounds pretty good, I would jump on it. This morning I spent $140.00 just for materials to paint a hood.

The thing is they also wouldn't be able to paint them for a week or two. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif What color are those Goodmarks when you buy them? Please say Mohave Gold!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

A week or two for 300 bucks.. That is a good deal.. Take it!!! Make sure you know what he will be doing in prep work.... If he just scuffs the edp coating on the fender and paints then thank him politely and leave...

I don't know what he'd do. I just told him that they were already primed, I don't know how they come. I actually didn't know what to expect when I got a quote for painting those fenders. Should I get them painted or should I just leave them the way they are until I get the car re-painted(probably at least a year)? The car probably won't be licensed for while, unless I bring it with me to school.

If you are not going to drive for a while you might want to wait on spending the $$$ There may be some value in installing fenders unpainted, checking and learning how to fit. Price is right if done properly, however if they get all scratched up, or you have fit problems installing, it would be grim. Also the likelihood of the color matching is marginal. Given some of your other body issues you may want to use those $$$ for other things. Stuff has also known to get damaged when sitting. Karl

The last thing on your mind should be painting the fenders. You need to fit them first get the proper fit so you know how many shims need to go where. You need to fit the car together before you paint, you dont fit it you chip paint.
Base clear and enamel being the same price hard to to believe but whatever its not my shop. 300 bucks to paint both fenders is cheap. I would make sure he is appling a round of primer surfacer first then blocking out the primer then painting. You need to tell your body guy that they would come only e-coated. To me being e-caoted and primed is two different things he might have thought the same.
Iam with Karl on this you need to fix the other problems on your car first before you worry about getting paint done. No need fixing a transmission when the starter is bad...You get the point...Eric
