: Flowmaster exhaust
Steve67L-79 Feb 14th, 06, 10:13 AM Who can tell me about the 3" American Thunder system? I am curious as to the exit of the tailpipes. From everything I can gather it appears that they dump behind the rear tires, not like the 2 1/2" that dumps at the rear bumper.
mr 4 speed Feb 14th, 06, 10:16 AM They make 2 kits, one thats straight out the back and the other exit you mentioned.
IMHO,their 3" kit is way over priced.
2k3Chevelle468 Feb 14th, 06, 5:04 PM I have had my 3 inch flowmaster kit since 2003. They exit out the back and tuck up well. At the time I paid less then 500.00 for them. That priced included shipping and mufflers. I contacted Flowmaster directly because few local vendors had them and Flowmaster wanted a pretty penny for them. They recommended a distributor out of Florida. Saved alot of money and they look and sound great. IMHO
Don't know what current prices for the kits are but for mandrel bent 3 inch pipes that fit as nice as these you are always gonna pay a little more.
Good luck in your decision.
vrooom3440 Feb 14th, 06, 7:36 PM I have been looking at this a bit lately... my problem is I do not want the typical mufflers they offer standard. As far as I can tell, my preference is for something like the Flowmaster 50 series delta flow. Looking for a muffler that emphasizes the low notes without being too loud to hear the tunes at cruise. Satisfying exhaust music without being overly loud.
I looked at three setups in 3": Flowmaster, Pypes, and Torque Tech. I could get a full Flowmaster setup with the 50 series for around $557 (Summit), Pypes for around $473, and Torque Tech $696.
So Flowmaster did not look that far out price-wise, especially factoring in that it included the H whereas Pypes did not.
69-CHVL Feb 14th, 06, 8:01 PM I paid less than 500.00 for my 3" Pypes system, x-pipe, and mufflers. I went and picked it to save on shipping, then I got wacked 6% sales tax  .
Shipping can get expensive, and Summit ships for free (and no tax)...something to consider.
BTW, I had the 50 deltas on my 2.5 system. I kinda miss them now in hindsight. They may be too loud though in the 3" version.
vrooom3440 Feb 16th, 06, 2:40 AM I have seen a few folks who run 3" up front and 2.5" tail pipes. How do you get this configuration? I see tail pipes seperated out but not the intermediate H.
Steve67L-79 Feb 16th, 06, 8:52 PM Ok, I did some more research, flowmaster system 17202 is for 64-67 and exits behind the rear wheels, system 17200 exits by the rear bumper and is for 68-72. I am really confused, their 2 1/2 system is the same for 64-72. Does that mean they have 2 separate listings so that you have a choice of exit location? Has anyone put the 3 inch on a 64-67 Chevelle?
bulb122 Feb 16th, 06, 9:39 PM I put the 2 1/2" Flowmaster system on my 68. It came with both sets of tailpipes, and I installed the one I liked best :) (out the back...)
Dunno about the 3" ones though.... maybe you still get both types of tails?
Steve67L-79 Feb 17th, 06, 7:16 PM I already have a 2 1/2" system on my 66, but hope to build around 500HP for my 67, so I thought I need to go to the 3" system for it, but only if they exit like the 2 1/2 system does. Has anyone put the 68-72 3" system on a 64-67 car?
