Mr. Murphy is overseeing my rear window replacement. Maybe I can save some others some grief. The only replacement available locally (in Indy) is a PPG DBO3992GTN. The charts say that's correct for a '68-'72 Chevelle 2dr hardtop (+'70-'72 MC and GP). It WILL NOT FIT. I've had two different ones from two different suppliers and have stood them next to the old. With the convex shape to the exterior side as correct, the bottom and top bow out towards the rear on the car on the old. The PPG pieces bow in towards the interior. Must be for a different A body. Here are the options so far: Put the old one back in; Get one from All Classics Chevelles in Minn for $250 +$80 truck freight (to a business or pick it up at the dock). Or same deal with OEM Glass in Bloomington, IL for $350 + $100 truck freight. They'll date code it for $45 additional. All of a sudden those minor scratches on the old one aren't looking so bad.

Don't know if this matters but, when I replaced my windshield ('69 Convertible) they came twice with the wrong one (books said it was right but NO WAY) finally they took the old one and matched (books said the 'correct' one was for a 4dr sedan) These were PPG books also. Like I said, don't know if this applies to the rear glass, but who knows.

My old mitchell crash books list the 68-72 chevelle rear glass the same only for the 2drH.T, it might be as Dave mentioned you might have a 4dr glass. If its any help the numbers are 7695842 for clear. 7695844 for tinted. For the 4dr the numbers are 7699359 and 7699360. Those are GM numbers from a mitchell crash book dated from 1974...Eric

Thanks but they weren't for a 4 dr. I looked at photos of 4 drs and they are distinctly different. The ones I tried had about the same outline as a 2 dr hdtp but wrong contour.
