I'm having my '69 SS rims painted at a body shop, and I need the code for this paint. Anybody have it?

Thanks in advance! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

DuPont 9692L or Ditzler DQE-8568 should be the paint code you want.

How about the code for the charcoal color? Also I read somewhere that GM painted the inside of the rim satin black and when spraying the Argent silver let it over spray through the slots onto the satin.
BTW Tom, did I see your name attached to a 70SS Camino somewhere along the line?

Thanks,
LB

I was just going to use a spray can for the charcoal colour. The body shop would charge a fortune to do 2 colours.

The best thing you could ever do to steel wheels is to have them sand blasted and powder coated. It cost on average about $15.00 for each wheel to be powder coated and they make a silver color and when applied you could not tell the difference between it an argent silver. Powder coating is about 10 times harder than the best paint and it takes a lot to chip it.

Unfortunately, powder coating is a little more expensive up here, $70 Cdn per rim.

Sorry guy's, I was asleep at the wheel! The dark charcoal for the 71-72 wheels is Ditzler DQE-32961 or Dupont 9901L. I painted my 69SS wheels the light argent and dark argent and do not like the way the wheels look. If I redo them they will be light argent and either gloss black or satin black.
I bought the paint from Hinshaw at the last Chevellabration. As far as powdercoating goes, I've had good and bad luck on wheels and would never 'coat' wheels again.
LB, I have a 72 ElCamino in the garage waiting for paint.

I've seen guys do the wheels like you stated, Tom, and it looks great as well. One problem the powder coater told me of was that any silver has to be powdered clear as well or the finish will turn chalky. She said this happened with any silver powdercoat. Also, the silver that matched Argent the closest was on their list of " custom " colours and was more expensive; $70 @ rim vs. $45 @ rim for a regular colour.

One powder coater told me the same thing. He said he has to coat them silver then clear coat them and that makes them shiny which looks good IMO but is not correct. I tried another guy that coated 15 wheels for me and they looked like crap. I got my money back and went back to paint, I know how that turns out.
