: Buying a chevelle project car
Zigster527 Feb 12th, 06, 10:38 PM Im saving up with a part time job to buy a chevelle. Im hoping for a true SS that i can put a lot of time into. How much money should i spend on one that would last me. I need any info on buying this chevelle.
thanks
JYags Feb 12th, 06, 11:09 PM Get two or three part-time jobs. You're gonna need to save all the money you can get your hands on. I've got a full-time job and there is never enough money left over for car projects after paying the mortgage, utilities and bills every month. Good luck to you, you've come to the best Chevelle site on the net.
BlueSS454 Feb 12th, 06, 11:22 PM If you want to see what cars are going for, pick up a Hemmings Motor News and page through it. The better of the car you want to start with, the higher the price you will pay. Do lots of searches right here on Team Chevelle, you will finds lots of valuable info here.
Jim Mac Feb 12th, 06, 11:37 PM Advice I would give anyone looking for a project car, take your time, cruise around older nieghborhoods, down alleys, check out peoples back yards, I don't want to sound like a stalker but, you'd be surprised how many classics are parked in peoples back yards and if you knock on the door and offer a reasonable offer, you may get a pretty good deal. I on the otherhand want them for free so I don't get many. If you look on the internet or even here, your competing with too many people and a lot of these folks have more money to spend then you. Also a lot of knowledgeable people here, so if someone is giving away a true SS for cheap someone will snap it up quick.
If you find one in a persons back yard, maybe they're not into barret jackson. or Ebay. and you may get one a lot cheaper. may not be a SS but maybe a nice malibu, youd be surprised. Jim
Enforcer505 Feb 12th, 06, 11:58 PM i would go with a nice chevelle no matter what it is. SS is alot more expensive, and original parts r killer to get for cheap. i would try (if going on a tight budget) buy a nice chevelle project and make it a clone. but if u like that true SS, give ppl hear some pics or somethign to help u if not sure :).
i am on a tight budget and found a nice chevelle to restore. its the best time in the world :)
Doug Garland Feb 13th, 06, 7:22 PM Where are you in Tn? I may know of an affordable , non SS , '68. Email me! It's in North Ga.
just a little note to let you know I Got Robbed, The guy told me the car needed a little work and when I got it home and started checking it out really good I found alot wrong with it, So Watch Out for those kinda people , Now I'm stuck with it. its for sale now
Livn-lg Feb 15th, 06, 9:00 PM I may have a line on a 65 ss (running 327 powerglide)coming up for sale in OR. What year do you prefer and how much is your budget going to be?
2BlueLS6's Feb 15th, 06, 11:00 PM Cheap advice: dents are a helluva lot easier to fix permanently than rust................ don't buy a rust bucket.
Some of the best bargains can be found in project cars that other people have taken mostly apart and either gotten overwhelmed by, or run out of money. It's always amazed me how people will pay more for a rough as hell car that they've gotta go home and disassemble and strip, than they will for a similar car that somebody else has already done the disassembly and stripping on. I've bought several of em that way over the years and the only challenge is usually gettin' all the scattered components.
70mc Feb 15th, 06, 11:24 PM The best thing you can do is take someone with you who knows Chevelles before you hand over money on any car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Livn-lg Feb 16th, 06, 10:42 PM I got a $4000 to $4500 mark on that 65 SS. I visualy checked it out and it is a really clean car. If you are interested I will get some pics. Let me know. Anyone else can PM as well. If I had the $ I would be all over it but I just bought a 64 Nova to go with my 64 Velle.
