I have a 71 Chevelle SS 396 four speed, and the throttle sticks. Won't come to an idle when you let off the accellerator. You have to push in on the clutch, and pump the accellerator once real fast then it will idle. I don't think its the automatic choke, I think its just sticking, but not sure. I have lubricated all joints, but that didn't help Any suggestions? Maybe a bigger spring?
Thanks!

I also have a Holley 4 bbl. maybe it is the choke, because if you punch it it quits, but it does it when its warm.

Could it be the throttle return spring isn't tight enough? Try making that a little tighter and see what happens. Also, try driving it around without an air cleaner for a short time. Maybe the linkage is getting hung up in the air cleaner or something else?

Clean the inside of the carb, maybe the butterflies are "crudded up ".

Take a good look at the gasket on the base of your carb - had that happen to me once, the gasket was off a hair, and the butterflies would hang open too far on the lip.
A sharp release of the throttle would close them, or I could do it manually - but not normally. Removed a little more of the gasket material and it fixed my issue.

Thanks for all the tips! Will give them a try.

check the obvious first. disconnect the linkage at the carb, and see if it is the carb binding up or the pedal linkage. that will give you an idea where to start looking to fix something.
