I have owned this car for six years and i am the third owner. The car is all original except for one rebuild onthe motor. It has original paint and interior. The car is originally from South Carolina, and still has the dealers sticker on the trunk. I know the car is a SS 396 car because of the vin tag,. and the protecto-plate. My question is, did these cars come with a build sheet? I have been told no by some people, and yes by others. At arecent car show i saw a 68 Impala with a build sheet and this made me wonder again.THanks again, just wondering. Kevin S

I have a build sheet for my '68 Caprice, but have never found on in any of the '68 Chevelles that I have owned or parted out, regardless of plant. Lots of Hollerith cards with trim info and several with adding machine tape with fountain pen writing on it about trim, though.

I have an unrestored 68 as well. No sign of a build sheet of any kind in any of the places youwould normally look. I don't think anyone has come up with a 68 Chevelle build sheet yet, but not certain.

I have a 68 too and haven't found a build sheet either. I have found a sheet in the drivers seat indicating the Buick interior though.
From what I have read here there were no build sheets in 68's.
I do remember meeting a guy at CB with an Ash Gold 68 and he said he found the build sheet on the inside of the right inner fender. (near blower motor)

I just gutted the interior in my original 68 SS and like the other posts, found no build sheet anywhere. The interior was original as was the carpet, and we looked under the seats, rear shelf, carpets etc and nothing. Car was built in Baltimore 3rd week of May. Was hoping to find some shreds of paper but came up dry. We haven't removed the seat upholstery covers yet, or the bucket seat backs, but doubt any type of docs got stuffed in there. Oh well, no big deal, just happy we found no rust anywhere in the floors, just need to paint them and start putting the refurbished stuff back in!

I have hear build sheets being found on top of the fuel tanks.

That is where mine was on my 69.
90% of it was destroyed.

There may be two different types of "build Sheets" to discuss when it comes to 68 Chevelles. I have seen several Fisher Body broadcast sheets ( as well as my own) which were used when building the 68 body. It showed the options which pertained to building the body, such as console, vinyl roof, trans type, etc. This should not be confused with the full build sheets we've all seen for 69's for example. I've never seen a full build sheet for a 68 Chevelle. It would seem that they were trashed rather than being stuffed in the various places in the car like 69's. We have seen several 1968 ElCamino build sheets from California built cars, but none so far from 68 Chelelles.
Heres a shot of my Fisher Body broadcast sheet that was found under my back seat.

BTW.. There was a 68 on Ebay recently that the owner claimed had a build sheet. I asked him to send me a copy b/c I've been researching 68's, and he emailed me back saying he got the build sheet with the car and it was brand new paper. Obviously a fake. I guess he thought since he was scammed by someone he would pass the fake build sheet along and scam someone too.

The build sheet on my '68 Caprice is identical to the ones on '69 and up Chevelles. Strange that big cars got them and Chevelles didn't. Any plant employees out there?
