Was wondering if some of you that have done full body off restos prefer dipping or blasting as a means of prepping a car body before final bodywork is done.

I have my L78 Chevelle almost to that point and need to make a decision soon. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dipping is a very bad idea if the car will ever get wet or will live in a humid environment. I know this from (expensive) experience.

Most guys on this board will NOT recommend dipping. The stuff tends to leak out of cracks and crevices after your car has been painted. Not good. Also, the dipping takes all the factory sealers off, and you can't get into those areas to re-apply the sealer.

The only exception I would think of would be a basket case car that is rare, and there are no other options. Roger Gibson did one years ago, an '69 L89 Camaro SS ragtop. The vehicle was in horrible shape, but was worth being saved.

You can dip as long as you E-coat after. The problem is finding a facility that can do something as large as a car body. Plus it must be baked after dipping. This is the only one I've found that can do all that. http://www.redi-coat.com Its expensive! about $2500 per body. Worth it to me as I will never sell my 69 L78 anyway.
