Painted the car sunday (march 23). We used PPG DCU 2021 with a hardener for the clear coat. There is 1/2 Gallon painted on the car.
How can I get rid of the orange peel we have in the clear. Scuff and reshoot the clear. If so what grit sand papper to start with and what grit to end up with????
Or can the clear on the car be buffed out. Or sanded and buffed. Any info on what glazing to use and what rpm buffer?
Thank you

How many coats did you apply? If 3 or 4 wet sand with 1000 or 1200 grit paper first, resand with 1500 grit, then rub with 3M Micro finish compound until scratches removed, follow with 3M swirl mark remover. I then use Meguiars polish. But remember this all depends on how many coats you applied...If not enough, you will go through the clear into your basecoat...what gun did you use?? If unsure contact PPG tech in Ohio. Do not let harden more than 48 hrs....it will be hard to sand and rub...ideally sand after 36...this what I have done and it is easier to work with and should not die back after this time...Hope this helps, although everyone doe's painting differently.

Great advice above. If you sprayed 2 coats, I would re-coat with another 2 coats after wet sanding with 1000. Whilr you are sanding, periodically wipe down your sanded areas with the rubber squeegee. You will see if you have removed all of the orange peel. Wet sanding must be done to achieve a smooth slick show car finish. No one can shoot paint that smooth.

We used a gun at 1.3 Sharpe??????maybe to small for clear. We have a old cheep 1.4 we use for sandable primer. Maybe should have used the old 1.4 for clear.
Currently sanding with 1000 and 1500
Bought a small rubber pad (squeegee)Using the squeegee works great.
We are planning on two more coats. Wait and see....
Thanks for your help. first time with painting Base/Clear and naturally we are making every mistake that can be made.........

If you are going to apply more clear, make sure you use a HVLP gun...This paint is high solids and this gun breaks down the paint to a finer spray. If you used a conventional gun before I know what your orange peel looks like, plus the amount of paint per coat was probably pretty thick, ( Film Build ). Be careful not get solvent trapping either...What hardener did you use?, and what solvent? The longer you wait between coats will help in avoiding solvent trapping. With this clear, you should have up to one hour betwwen coats..I wait about 20 minuets to 30 minuets...this is important for me as my car is black and if you get solvent trapping you will see white specks allover after rubbing..these are tiny pits in paint that compound and polish got caught in...BAD NEWS!! Solvent trapping will look like tiny dirt specks all over after drying. This is more apt to happen in hot weather if proper solvent time between coats are not followed. In this weather (cool) you should be alright..Just take your time and be careful, use correct materials, caal ppg if you have any questions. Also wear fresh air supply when painting. Believe me this stuff is all different from the old lacquer days..Been there...Mail phone # if you would like to talk.
