I am looking changing the rear end in my 69. What would be a good price for a 12-bolt in stock condition, open, high gear rear end? The prices seem out rageous on ebay and I don't want to overpay for one. Thanks

I have bought them for $100 lately. Sometimes you have to pay more, but there are some good deals left. I have seen housings as high as $250 lately, but I have to be carefull about how much I pay for them because I rebuild them to resell.

Year ago I met a guy with 7 complete 12 bolts, drum to drum, he was selling them for $250 each. I got one off of him for my chevelle. found another 3.31 open for $100 missing one axle. but I had 2 spares so no big deal. last one I found I got it for a friend for a $100 bare housing with cover. Jim

WOW, Ive been seeing $800-$1000 for a 12 Bolt rear in stock condition. Seems to be the average...Guess Im not looking in the right places. I paid $400 for a 10 Bolt Posi 3:23. Guess I got ripped!

I have found a place with several complete drum to drum dirt cheap. They are in different type A body cars like GTO, Elcamino, etc. but I believe they will work in 64-72 chevelle also. I think it may be worth it to go pull them all according to the prices on Ebay. I have been looking for one and I checked Ebay (600-1700) then did some checking around found em much much much cheaper.

Backwoods boneyard. Have you checked all your local boneyards? It doesn't have to be out a chevelle to fit.

hmmmmmm, I thought you were talking about a web site or Company......I have checked the boneyards in a 400 mile radius, If and only If you find one housings are going for 5-6 hundred stripped.

You have to be careful about BOP 12-bolts as they generally are not nearly as strong as Chevelle 12-bolts but, some 70 GTO's did have Chevrolet 12-bolts and I would guess some 442's and Buick GS's did too. If the cover has the stamped in rib to direct oil to the carrier bearings, its a Chevelle, smooth cover its a BOP. As far as pricing goes, it's a seller's market given the current demand. Early Chevelle (1965 in particular) 12-bolts seem to command a premium and almost always sell for over $1000.00 often reaching $1700.00-1800.00 for one with new bearings, seals, freshly blasted and painted. I sold three 65's and one 66 last year for an average of $1350.00 each. I have only a few left and will get whatever the market will bear.
