Hello, I am getting my wheel wells powdercoated and the guy is trying to talk me into powdercoating the hood, trunk, doors and fenders even though i will be painting them. Has anyone ever heard of this and is it advisable. Thanks Alan

Don't even consider it. You'll have brutal looking panels, since there will be NO prep done in regards to body work.
Is this guy really serious?

I've been curious about this myself. Not that the powder would be a finish coat but more as a base coat from where you could eliminate the etching primer and start with polyurethane for example for surfacing.
Wouldn't it be a great base to start with?

This might be a dumb question, but doesn't powdercoat involve quite a bit of heat? Might not possible warping be a consideration?

Heat is definitely an issue. Most powders need to be heated to 400 degrees. Also in my limited experience, the powder is slick as snake snot, it'll take a bunch of prep work to make the paint stick.

2 good reasons to avoid it.
