hi guy's im new to the sight so go easy on me. anyway its been a long time coming but after owning my 67 malibu for 16 years its finally time to go BIG ! i am building a SHAFIROFF 540 short block with Dart pro 1 cnc heads and DART intake. i was just wondering if anyone has this combo in there 67 chevelle . and maybe could point out a few of the problem areas i may run into during the placement of this 540. i just found this sight last night and i probably have 6 hours on it already. GREAT SIGHT !!!! and thanks in advance to any that can take the time and help

It'll fall right in, just like any fat motor. Just be sure you get the correct oil pan for that chassis, or if you're into doing some fabrication you can notch out the engine crossmember to gain more room for some of the bigger pans. You didn't specify if it's a standard or tall deck block, but I do know those heads have the raised exhaust ports, so headers may or may not be an issue, you'll have to try and bolt them up and go from there. Other than that, she should just fall into place. Oh, and the stock hood probably won't clear with the Dart intake, so be careful when lowering the hood for the first time.

540's are fun but plan on spending some of the budget on suspensions mods to control the beast. :waving:

i should have mentioned what the chassis and suspension has. the rear end is a ford 9 inch housing, strange nodular center section, with 430 gears detroit locker,35 spline mosher axels,4 piston willwood prostreet rear disc brakes, dennys nitrous drive shaft ,( then the week spot ) hooked to a Built TH 350 with a 10 inch 3000 to 3500 tci torque converter, all of this stuff was put in the car almost 10 years ago, i had planned on putting a big block in all along, the car has been sitting in my garage for the last 7 years pushed to the side colecting dust . you all heard the story before , bought a new house got married had kids . well now the kid is almost 6 and now its time to start building my MONSTER again.

Dang, sounds like a pretty stout set-up......well, except for the tranny, which you already mentioned. I'm pretty sure a Shafiroff 540 will lay waste to it in rather short order, LOL. Other than that it looks like a sweet ride. Whats the plan, streeter, street/strip, total race?

Most of us are well aware of the "Got Married" syndrome. Yeah, it happens, what's a guy to do? Hey, look at the bright side, your child is only 6, they're real cheap to provide for at that age, wait until he/she becomes a teenager, that's when the fun starts. You better get on it and get-er-done while you can.

How's that for a motivational speech? :D

(my new home:D ) but the wife has been great about all my spending habbits.:beers: just cant wait to have this thing back together and see if those new M/T drag radials can take it ( cause i know the tranny wont:eek: ) Thanks guys for the comments ! and if i could figure out how to post some pics i would love for you guys to see my project in the works:confused:
