RixLS6 Feb 8th, 06, 10:04 PM Nice frame so far. I've seen other front upper control arms with those style of bushing retainers (Large nuts and washers on ends). Weren't the originals retained with 3/8-24 bolts on the ends?
Rick
1badss396 Feb 8th, 06, 10:10 PM The original control arms are long gone when I got the car and it had a pair of offset arms on it, so I left them alone.
Wheelhop Feb 8th, 06, 10:11 PM The things I see, and I think it looks good, but you asked!
Spring color should be a natural, or cast grey color.
front sway bar should be natural, or cast grey color too.
I did notice the upper A arm washers should be gold cad.
The brackets ,one on either side that holed your rubber brake line to frame should be cast grey.
The upper A arm bushings should be riveted in, not bolted.
Great job, keep it up!
Wheelhop Feb 8th, 06, 11:04 PM Don't you need Hurricane straps on that frame, local Florida rule, I think!
1badss396 Feb 8th, 06, 11:07 PM Its not hurricane season yet but Iam ready to strap the frame to the floor this year, LOL
FameSS-396 Feb 8th, 06, 11:14 PM Same here!
Wheelhop Feb 8th, 06, 11:18 PM You can get black rear end cover bolts from Ground Up!
Wheelhop Feb 9th, 06, 12:33 AM New to attaching files, here's my frame and motor so far.
Hope it worked!
Wheelhop Feb 9th, 06, 12:35 AM Here it is again, I hope
Rainer Feb 9th, 06, 2:07 AM I've got several sets of disc brakes and the accompanying hose brackets, and all mine are satin black (not gray as noted above). I noticed that the bolts holding on the hose brackets and some other attaching bolts are painted black rather than grey phosphate or black oxide. Re: the control arms, I think the ones with the large nuts on the shafts are Pontiac units. As noted above, the Chevy type have bolts on the ends of the shafts. The Chevy ones I have cleaned up and beadblasted have also all had a C stamped in the flat area on top.

I have black cover bolts. The body shop painted them black along with the rest of the rear end. I like the shiny ones that are on there now.
Nice Engine! Looks like you have the lead! I am still working on the engine.
Body Shop is full of promises, but still has not started!
FameSS-396 Feb 9th, 06, 10:37 PM Rainer,
On my 68, I have some trouble with the brackets that attach to the frame that support the rubber brake hose to the steel lines.
I converted from drum to disk. The new disk hoses do not fit the old brackets.
I bought a set of brackets from one of the brake line companies. Well, the bracket is different. The original has the bolt hole in the center and then a small tab, also in the center above the bolt hole, that holds the bracket in place. Well, the repop has the tab on the edge of the bracket.
One choice is to drill a new hole in the frame for the tab.
I could dremel out the original bracket to fit the hose, but I do not think that it will hold the brake hose properly.
I could manufacture a new bracket, but thats a pain in the @@@@
I called every brake line company that I could find and all are the same.
I do not know what else to do. Any ideas?
Dean Feb 10th, 06, 11:39 AM I got the correct disk brake hose to frame brackets from The Right Stuff.

Sounds like Dean has a possible solution for you. The brackets I have are part of the disc brake setups I sell, so I can't break them up.
FameSS-396 Feb 10th, 06, 9:06 PM Their brake line-hose brackets RSBK70 on page 2 of their catalog does not fit my 68. The picture of the bracket shows that tab on the edge of the bracket and mine sticks out in the center of the bracket. I have called every brake line company that I know of. It is possible that is a 1968 only item. I will probably end up modifing mine to fit.
