This is my first post on this board. I recently purchased a 1966 chevelle ss396 from a friend to start a project. The body is stripped down to bare metal and in rough shape.
Things that need to be replaced.
-Rear window to trunk panel
-drivers 1/4 has rust holes just above where the replacement rear window to trunk panel goes
-passenger 1/4 has rust holes in the area behind the rear tire.
-The back panel that the tail lights attatch has rust holes in it also down near the bumper.
The roof, doors, trunk, and floor pans are in decent shape and have all been painted with POR-15.
I have been searching this site trying to find info on replacing these panels and to see if I am even qualified to do so. From what I have read some people seem to think its a piece of cake and others have more difficulty but stil get by. I have and have access to a decent amount of tools. I tried looking for a book with instructions on replacing 1/4 panels and such but had no luck. Another question I have is whether the panel that the tail lights mount to is even available?
So would it be best to try and replace just the areas with rust, replace all of the panels completely, try it myself or leave it up to a body shop? What kind of price would I be looking at to have those panels installed? This is about all I can think of now, im sure your replies will lead to more questions. Thanks for your time
