well i am down to the hole drilling. does anyone have a easy foolproof way of locating where to drill the holes for vinaltop trim moldings on a 70 chevelle? also measurements for the SS and the 454 emblems. thanks michael

Lay the molding where you want it,tape it in place on vertical areas. Trace it with a water based marker. Remove the molding.Lay your molding clip inside the trace mark. Mark where you want to drill. Then drill the holes.

On our '72 Lemans, we had a body shop weld the studs onto the body with a stud weld gun, just like the originals. No holes needed except for the corner pieces.

positioning the moulding and marking the clip locations works good for some models but the 70 has corner trim pieces that have studs and speednuts not body mounted clips on this piece. A template can be made from another car or the original quarters if they've been replaced. Or if you have some trim that is junk just knock the studs off and position them on the car to find the proper location. I have some templates made from a parts car that are stored with my vinyl top kit. I may be able to make a duplicate and mail it if you can't figure it out. Bob

thanks bob i am going to tackle the project this weekend. i cut my orginal quarters up when i was removing them. and those thangs kinda got lost in the shuffe. i have a wrecked 71 i can refer to on the passanger side but driverside is bent to bad to get a measurement from. how did you make your templet? i thought about using a level and mark the hole centers on it and measure the distance from the driprail down to the center of the front hole at the quarter window, then use it for my starting point. ya think that might work?
