I took my alternator off to get it tested and had a hard time undoing the nut on the post on the rear of the unit. The plastic insulator piece was already cracked and deteriorated and now there is barely anything left to go between the post and the wire. I tried removing the post but it just spins. I bought a plastic washer as a substitute...if I could only get the post off.
Any suggestions? The alt. is still good, btw.
Any suggestions?
What I would do is replace the terminal with one from an old junk alternator or pick up one from a local alternaor rebuild shop.
If the terminal post rotated it most likey broke the wire attached to the back of it.

Here's the secret to not being affraid to take your alternator apart. See the little hole just above the bearing cup on the back? When you go to put the thing back together, stick a paperclip in there to hold the brushes down. The part you need is common and any rebuild shop should be able to sell you the stud and insulator. Don't forget your clock position either. You can leave the fan and pulley attached to that half.
