Getting close to getting my wagon painted and restified. I'm thinking about taking the roof rack off. What do you guys/gals think?

It is lowered and will be painted a dark red or maroon.

Thanks,

I personally like the roof racks on a wagon...if it is original and not an aftermarket, generic add on.
Roof racks and wagons go together, IMO.

Well, I looked at mine on and off.......left it off. I just think it looks cleaner, lower and more hot-roddish. Is that a word?

Took mine off. You will need to fill the 1/2" holes in the roof tho..... going to leave the air dam on tho....

Yes, hotrodish! I had the roof holes filled and will only re-install the air dam on my 70 SS 'clone' wagon. (Almost done) Mine was not in the greatest shape, but if anyone needs parts for a rack (or wants to see pics. of the 'SS') just let me know. Steve (shusak@vbg.org)

Yes show us some pics of it w/o the rack.

Leave it on, gives a classic look (IMHO). Plus you won't have to fill those holes, look at all the time you just saved!!

If the roof rack is GM and in good shape, keep it on. My wagon has never had a roof rack so I'm not going drill holes in that virgin roof, but I do like the look of a hot rod wagon with a roof rack.

I had bought a spare for parts. My original intention was to keep it but I have a model of a 66 wagon w/o the rack and I kind of like it. But with that much space it does need something to break it up.

Keep your opinions coming and if you have pics post them or pm me.

Mine never came with one, and I'm happy about that.

It's a personal choice, but I like shaving trim to smooth out the look of a car. Others will add more trim and scripts.

It's your call, cuz it's your car!

i plan on welding nuts on the underside of the roof, so i can either put the rack on or use polished button head screws when i have the rack off. it sure is easier to wash the wagon without the rack in the way. i probably would keep the rack off 99% of the time, but with the third back seat, you never know when you might wish the rack was there.

I'm keeping the rack on my '67 wagon, now half way through a frame-off. The pot metal supports are at the chrome plater now. I like the original look (although I will have an SS hood and mags for the "hot rod" look). The vintage look and the "mechanicalness" of the door handles, roof rack and air dam, Malibu chrome, etc. appeals to me.

Other looks are great also, such as a lowered and shaved long roof ride, just not for me on this wagon. If you have a graphics software program, remove the rack and see how you like it...

Any one have an air dam for sale?

I haven't made up my mind yet. I like the smooth roof look. No emblems but I'll leave the door handles. My wife says keep it. I'm not sure I want it. The car is sort of for her. But I like having all that room in the wagon. My 2 door is fun but is more of a go fast item. Like drive it to the track and home stuff.

I looked at a few pics of cars w/o and with them and if they are nice and bright maybe. But to wash and wax around them that has to be hard.

More pics.

Please.

I would love to have that roof rack if you take it off. I have the same car, and it is burgundy. I will send some pictures.

Thanks.
