Do you run a trans shield? What trans do you have, 400 or 350? How does the trans shield fit, what mods?

To be legal I'll have to put one in my car, but don't think it will fit with a T400 without tunnel mods in my Nova.

Not Ron, but I have the CSI or CSR:confused: Kevlar shield and its a pain in the arse to install with a th400 in my '72. It was such a pain that when I was swapping transmissions on a regular basis last july I left it off, finally reinstalled this winter when I swapped converters. I'm not sure if one of those with the metal flexplate shield and separate metal shield for the body of the trans. wouldnt be an easier install.

Dave you got a PM.

I run the TCI trans sheild red one not to bad. Bob,+ Ron Quick question for both and not to hijack but How do you like the Spool on your cars? Is it as bad as they say on turns. I have a manual steering gear so no quick turns for me. Do you drive on the highway at all? Thanks Dave

Any of you guys ever actually get checked for the trans shield? Asked for the SFI date on it?

Our track just became sanctioned last year by the IHRA and up to this point, mine has never been checked, usually at the beginning of the year they look at the rollbar and under the hood and if you're a regular in points they pretty much don't ever tech again. New cars always get the once over real good. They have never asked to see or asked if I had a transmission shield.

Bob I Have A Jw Ultrabell On My Th400. Have You Thought About Using One Of Those. Fits Under Stock Floor With No Problems, Is Sfi Approved And Is Supposibly 600 Times Stronger Than Stock.

Hey Doug,

Sorry I didn't log on and read last night. Too busy finishing the trans install....and getting trans fluid in my hair!

I use a trans blanket. Actually quite easy to deal with, and resonably inexpensve. It slides in place w/o having to lower the trans. I also have a deep finned alum pan, so I think there is plenty of airflow across the bottom. I don't have a trans temp gauge, but the car has never burned the fluid.

BTW....I have a TH400

As for the spool, it's not all that bad to deal with. Although for a car that sees a lot of street miles, it would be a pain. I do drive it on the highway.

Thanks Ron,
I am installing a trans temp gauge now. Have the stock pan. Won't worry about it this year, and will see how it goes. Obviously the temp was what I was worried about with a blanket. I know at my track it won't get checked except for maybe one race I might run. If I thought I'd be unsafe, I'd use it, but with no Tbrake I've never heard of a problem.

I didnt think about it at the time, but after installing it last time with the new converter I sure did. It is a real pain in the A$$. Have you had an issues with pulling on the pump bolts or movement between the ultrabell and case? I'd almost bet its cheaper too!!!

The Ultrabell meets the flexplate SFI rule, but does not act as a case protection like a CSI/CSR shield or blanket. Even with the Ultrabell, you still need the case of the trans covered. IIRC, you need the trans shield at 10.99 and quicker, but do not need the flexplate shield till 9.99 and quicker (or is it 135 mph?).

I've never seen a transmission explode in a footbraked car...Anyone?

Bob West, So Far I Haven't Had Any Problems With The Ultrabell. Have Gone To At Least Three Different Tracks And Never Been Checked For A Blanket Or Scatter Shield Yet. Looks Like We May Have To Look Into Getting Something For Our Own Safety Sooner Or Later As We Both Want To Go Quicker.
