I was all sorts of ready to put down Etch followed by Epoxy, to make sure that my car was protected.
Now that I look, neither the P-sheet for my etch (Dupont Variprime) nor the Epoxy (Dupont 2510S) list the other as acceptable.
Should I just choose one or the other? Are there areas that one excels and the other does not? I've already bought both so I can mix and match if it's warranted.
This might be a question for MARTINSR, but "etch" is for bare metal, "Epoxy" is not gonna provide the same protection over bare metal.
Personal experience: I had metal welded in my front fenders, this area was topped off with yellow death metal etch from Dupont, forget the code #, then total fender covered with Dupont Epoxy color-tinted primer. I did these fenders almost 2 years ago. they are hanging in my garage, and look great.

I suggest you go to the paint store and get some more info. I don't know DuPont numbers that well and am not familier with the 2510S. DuPont has products that they don't clarify on the can or name exactly what it is. Something listed in the suitible substrates may be an epozy. Prime-n-seal for instance is on the list. I think it may be an epoxy. Or CRONAR, it may not be on the list but I believe it is on the recommended "Fleet refinishing guide" Vari-prime then CRONAR then top coat as I remember.

Called a different paint store (but still a DuPont shop) to get their opinion, they said that I can put the 2510S epoxy over the Variprime or just put the 2510 directly on the metal. It sounded like the guy I talked to preferred doing both, so I think that's where I'm headed.
Thanks, y'all.

Use the etch over bare metal first then topcoat with an urethane 2K primer or your expoy. For Dupont use their variprime its great stuff,# 615S. Dupont's URO primer filler is in my opinion one of the best 2K primers out there,#1120S. In my Dupont tech book the only product Dupont has that will go under body filler is Prime-Seal,#2610S. Only an expoy based product recommended by the manufacter can be used under filler and Prime-seal is listed by Dupont.
Etch is much better on bare metal then an expoy. The prime-seal can be used over the variprime...Eric
