: Body mount rubber

Got a few mounts that a near shot, but the absolute worst is the passenger side rear just in front of the differential. The rubber is completely gone. Is there a way to replace this without having to disassemble the rear quarter? Is there a point where I can pry enough room to slide the rubber in place? Is the bolt attached to a welded nut or if I loosen the bolt will the nut fall into oblivion and I'll wind up having to take the rear end off anyway. I was making such GOOD PROGRESS on my resto until I noticed this nasty little problem. Any advice greatly appreciated.

You have now entered the cussing zone....

The body mount nuts are capive in the floor.

If your body or floor is rusty you will probably make up some new words when doing this.

first I would gentley try to turn the bolts out if you have no luck (dont try hard enough to break them)drill a small hole in the interior floor above the bolt and spray PB Blaster or other penatrating oil on the captive nut and repeat for a few days.

then as some have had luck the bolts will turn out. Do one side of the car at a time.
might as well replace them all.

when your bolts are out use a 2x4 under the rocker panel lift the body and replace the bushings.Watch out for brake lines and Etc when lifting the body.

When your bolts break even after soaking for 2 months do a search or post a new topic and we can get into that.

Thanks, Chris. I'll make sure the kids are fast asleep when I try this so they don't learn any more new words as a result of dad's project.

I second that about drilling holes and pre-treating them. try loosening them all before you get started changing them in case one breaks. I took my bolts out one-at-a-time and reinstalled the new bolts a couple days before I changed the bushings. You have to change one side at a time (as stated above) so the body does not shift while you have it jacked up.

I was lucky enough to get all mine out without breaking any (one was close). Hopefully your car spent most of its life in texas like mine.

You might want to use a 4x4 instead of a 2x4.

Just finished the first one - the missing one, that is. WHAT A BEAR! I couldn't even think of any cuss words appropriate for the difficulty. Took me an hour and a half because the bushing kept slipping out and falling on the floor (three hands would be good for this one). But it's in now and the others will hopefully go more smoothly now that I understand the optimum leverage points. Thanks!!!
