the paint shop (still has my car after 4 weeks) let the battery go dead and now the starter grinds like i have never heard,(this is with a booster on it with pleanty of voltage) i have heard that this can happen if it gets kicked back by the motor and it can break the nose of the starter. ever hear of this. it does have a larger cam but i have never heard of it. they are going to have a mech. look at it and i will be damned if they can blame me, since im pissed anyway that they are taking sooo long and i have to show them every little thing to fix over and over. jk

From what you are describing, it does sound like the nose is cracked or broken. My 'el cheapo' starter from a national parts house went south on me after about 8 months useage. When I installed it, I made sure that it had proper clearance. After that snafu I upgraded to a Proform Mini starter and haven't had a problem yet - sounds kewl and works like a charm!
