My car is ready for paint, but I am still undecided about the color. I know is going to be silver; however, there are many variations of silver. I want it to stand out. Any recommendations?

I like the fine grain silvers, usually the high end cars have good examples. Just remember the texture must be perfect before applying the color because the silver will magnify any sandscratches etc. Also if you have the mixer add waek black to the color this will multiply the shadow effect showing your body lines off a bit more. Check out the newer toyota colors, I think they have a nice silver.

I've been looking at the 2003 Impala silver and was suggested that I add some pearl to it. I wonder what effect that will create. Has anyone here attempted this with silver? I can't remeber what color pearl I was told.

My car is just about done being painted after 2 months in the shop. I used the 2000 Silver on the PT Cruiser. It looks really classy IMO. If you want some pics, I can send them sometime later in the week.

i saw a 70 chevelle painted argent silver at a show last year and it looked awsome! it was available for the 70 chevelle back then not positive on correct numbers it kinda had a green contrast to it the guy told me that back then people didnt like it because the greenish hue would show in florecent lighting ! i like it so much i might scrap the bright red plans for my 70 graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I would love to have pics, Sneal 46.

Baddbob71, do you mean "weak" black? If so, what does that mean?

You might think about a 1970 GM color called "Cortez" silver. That is what I'm going with on my '70. E=mail me for the paint code. I don't recall the # right now.

I had a couple pics already, but they are dark. I will get some better ones and send them later in the week.

Weak blacks are a very low strength mixing tint that darkens colors on the side but don't affect the face color very much. When added to the color it doesn't change the actual color much but increases the darkness out of direct light, this shows bodylines well. Some solid colors use the weak black as well for the same reasons, Hugger Orange for instance has a fair amount in most formulas, this enables a bright orange to show a greater transition out of direct light.

Thanks Texas 70, my 69 camaro is already cortez silver. However, it is a little light. I like the overall look, but I think is missing something. Like I said I want it to stand out from the rest. I want it to be somewhat unique, tastefully unique. I am going to try Baddbob71's suggestion and use the weak black. I should still have some paint left over somewhere in my garage. I am also going to buy a pint of the 2003 Chev Impala silver and try this same technique.

If anyone has any other suggestions...?

My 1990 Corvette was redone in 2000 Mercedes Benz Brilliant Silver Metallic. I looked at many before making a choice. It gets quite a few complements.

The Chevelle is Silver too... Cortez Silver.

My chevelle used to be cortez silver and it was way lighter than that. I like the dark silver like yours way better. Are you sure about cortez silver?

Obviously my first attempt at posting a pic wasnt successful...thanks Dean.

The color is really lighter than the pic shows. If you see a 2000 Dodge Durango... thats the silver I used. It is very deep metallic. A very nice silver IMO, I am glad I used it on the car.

I love a dark gray car. Not sure what color my car actually is but I like it.
