I need a hydraulic cam that is .580" lift or less for my 496 that is being built. I want to stay with a non-roller cam, I would prefer a hydraulic. Is this size cam going to be too small? My compression will be at 10.25:1. I will also use 781's. Any other choices?

Why is lift limited to 580? - springs?
You should still be able to get decent duration (240-250s) at 580lift, which will make power in the right rpm band - to around 6000rpm.

yep, springs. If needed I guess a swap isn't out of the question. I guess I want to get to at least 550hp and maybe 600lb/ft?? Will a cam this small do it for me?

I think the XE284 would be nice choice for a mild 496 on the street. The XE274 is a great cam in a 454 as I have run that combo.

I run the XE284 in my 496, like it a lot. 496 with worked 781 heads, 2.25 intakes, RPM AirGap & 10.25 CR..

Well, after reading about a lot of comp cam failures, I am going with the voodoo 241/249 .526"/.546" Hope she will run strong!
