So here's the thing, I am looking for some websites that maybe have some how-to's or maybe just some ideas of how to custom an old 76 GMC Sierra. This is my drag car hauler and I want to custom it to basically make it fun. To turn it into the "ultimate tailgating truck" (lol okay so maybe I am getting ahead of myself!) But seriously I think it could be fun. I am thinking about taking the top off and going to a soft top type thing so that I can just "roll up" the soft top and drive around with out a top. Any opinions on that?

Any other crazy thoughts on things that would make it the "ultimate" tailgating truck?

WWW.chevytalk.com (http://WWW.chevytalk.com) is probably the best bet. They have a truck section there that deals with anything from the early 1900s to the present.

Theres some info about that idea. My boss at the body shop I work at is big into building street rods. His current project is a 47 roadster pickup. What it is a convert 47 ford from the doors forward and the rear section has a pickup rear gratfed in. So it has a car front end and doors on it but with a truck bed in the back. It has a removable hard top that fits into the bed. Those soft tops you talk about WILL run around 3000 bucks installed, and in my opinion are a joke. Once you remove the top what are you planning on doing to add back to the strengh of the cab? That cab will flex unless you do something. What we are doing to add to the strengh is welding in a full metal console from the cowl to the back of the cab and welded to the floor. Also adding additional bracing undernearth the cab. This is professional type of work there not some thing that the average backyarder can do.

Why not just try something like a welded roll pans front and back or a louvered tailgate. Welding in those taillight areas and placing the taillight somewhere else. A cowl inducted hood. Chopping tops doesnt come cheap, one shop I know just did a 50 something ford truck and it started at 2000 bucks and went from there. Making your truck into a roadster will be a drop in the bucket at 2000. Good luck...Eric
