Gentlemen:

The speedometer in my '72 malibu convertible is extremely loud. I have the standard sweep style steedo and as I accelerate, I not only hear the ossilations on the cable, but I also see the speedo indicator on the dash slightly bouncing as acceleration continues.

Is this very common?
Do I need a new cable or does it possibly just need lubrication? (It is 27 years old)

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Chances are you jsut need to get some speedo cable lube. The cable in my 71 chirps like a cricket I just havent been able to get to it yet.

Try the lube, but if it persists, you'll probably need to replace the cable. They're still available at most auto parts stores and not difficult to change.

Brian, replaced mine because it was too long. No more noise.
