I have a 69' Malibu 307ci w/ a 3 on the tree trans.

I would like to turn this car into a Pro-touring machine, that is capable of running open track events and comfortably be street driven also.

This was my first car, and I've owned it for 16 years (No it hasn't been my only car lol). It needs quite a bit of body work, has some dents and minor rust (hasn't run or been driven in seven years). I have a small block 408 short block that I've started and plan to replace the 307 with it. I would like to put in a 6 spd trans in also.

So where do I start? I can handle anything mechanical but have no body work or painting experience. I don't want or need a show car. It's most important to me that it handle, stop, and accelerate well.

I have somewhat of an idea on what I want on the car mechanically, but don't really have a clue on the body work/restoration part. Would a frame off resto be best for a Pro-touring car? Is any strengthening of the frame necessary?

Any suggestions? Place to start?

I can provide some pics of the car if that would help.

There is a wealth of knowledge on this sight. The "Search" function is your best friend! There are several of us doing pro-touring style builds here, so check out our posts and read thru them. There are some links in those posts for other sites that can help.

Here's a good link page for some sites:
