Further to my question regarding a TH350 swap into a 65 Chevelle with a Powerglide, what about a 700R (or 200R) instead. Any problems with mounting position, and how do you select the proper non-electronic converter?

I prefer the 200 swap over the 700, the only "tuff part" is gettin the cable correct.
The 2004r is basically the same size as the 350 and just slide the trannie mount back a few inches.
Your non lockup converter will depend on your engine stats, cam & stuff like that.
I use the lock up with a B&M speed control lockup

I built a Red 70 SS454 Sta. Wgn. Using a 700R4. Very simple bolt in STOCK cooler lines, slid cross member back to next set of holes,Cut shaft about 2",Chuck hanson gave me a phone number for the electric lock up. ninty bucks shipped to your house. Make sure you get the right 700r. Thier are diff. models.Stock col. shifter works fine no mods. The tranny I have has the spedo cable that screws in. This 700R4 has been in my wagon for 5 years NO trouble.milage with 396-24 no-air 22 with air---With 454 with air 18 W/O 20 mpg. At 75 MPH 454 turns 1950 rpms. do not go lower than a 3:08 rear. WHY 1st gear in a 700 is 3:06. Mine shifts like factory 13--36--55. Will it spin tires ,YES untill you lift. 1/4 mil. at the drags, in street trim . It turns high 14s. Yes and this wagon is HEAVY.I bought the elect. shift kit, We sometimes take my camino and the wagon to shows, My wife drives the red wagon I tow the camino. I wanted a car that was easy to drive for my wife, Go with to auto elect lock up. It drives like a new car. Stick it in O.D. and go!! no directions needed. 70 SS454 M22 one owner camino--70 SS454 sta. Wgn."driver" Bob ACES 2825

I am running a 200 4R in my '65 - a totally bitchen setup. The 200 4R fits much better in a '65's trans tunnel. You can reuse your driveshaft without modification. As mentioned you'll need to slide the trans crossmember back a few inches. To mount up my T.V. cable I used a Bowtie Overdrives E.Z. T.V. kit. They don't actually make a kit for use with a Holley Dominator (because Holley has had several variations on the Dominator linkage over the years), so I purchased the BTOD kit for the King Demon carb and modified it to work on my Dominator.

I elected to run a lock up converter because I am crazy enough to want to thunder down the highway. All I did was to mount a toggle switch on my shifter housing. Once I am up to cruising speed, ~ 75 mph, I switch the lock up on and watch the rpms settle in at ~ 2,500 rpm. My 496 even gets 11 mpg on the highway at a steady 75 mph - pretty good considering the 564 rear wheel horsepower.

Ditto on the 2004r. Easy installation with no drive shaft mods needed. Have been running the 200 for 4 years with nary a problem. The 200 has the strength to upshift into overdrive at full throtle and the 700 you will be risking a failure.
