: Windshield molding clips
bochnak Jan 31st, 06, 7:03 PM First post.....just bought a 70' 1-2 months ago and the windshield moldings flew off on the highway on the way home (they were a bit loose). The car was just repainted and the vinyl top was removed. The trim was loose for 2 possible reasons: 1. They reused the clips and needs new ones installed? 2. Since the vinyl top is no longer installed and need shorter clips so the molding is closer to the glass?
These clips are the stud type, not the screw in type. Anyone experience problems with the moldings after removing the vinyl top? Are there several length style clips?
Love the site and have been reading forums everday....keep up the good work.
Thanks.

I pulled one of the clips out last night and looks like:

Should I continue to use this clip even though the vehicle no longer has a vinyl top?
LKN BCK Feb 1st, 06, 4:20 PM If the clips are not pretty snug up against the body and/or loose on the stud then they are probably bent out of shape and will not hold the trim tight.
bochnak Feb 1st, 06, 5:30 PM Thanks for the response. Some clips are missing, and other are really beat up. Just want to make sure whether to order the same style clip.
gary salsman Feb 1st, 06, 6:56 PM You should be able to use the same ones. I bought mine at NAPA. bring your old one along, the books have full size pictures. The ford ones look similar, but won't work.

bochnak Feb 1st, 06, 7:15 PM I found these on Ebay:

Does cheap price = cheap quality?
gary salsman Feb 2nd, 06, 8:12 AM I paid less than $5 for a bag of 16 with no shipping. Thats probably not a bad price for 25 with the screws, but you don't need that many. I think there are only about 12 on the windshield. Ive seen the screws alone sell for as high as $32 for 10. Any autoparts store should carry them, or go to a glass company.

bochnak Feb 2nd, 06, 11:15 AM Thanks Gary. I will head over to NAPA and see what they have.
lol...sees a chevelle burning down the road....miscellaneous trim parts flying off....doh!
alstoy66 Jan 25th, 07, 1:46 PM Are there any clips that go across the top of the windshield?
Or is it just across the bottom and up teh sides.
Mine has no reference of any being on the top.
The trim was off when I bought the car?
gary salsman Jan 25th, 07, 11:22 PM There should be some across the top also, spaced about the same as the sides and bottom.

jfman Jan 26th, 07, 12:26 AM Guyz... are you pins gone on you windshield channels ?
alstoy66 Jan 26th, 07, 8:06 AM Thanks for the information.
Yes the pins are gone. It was that way when I purchsed the car.
Now in the process of putting everything back together.
Whoever had it before did a real hack job at "fixing it up"
I'm sure I'll be on here asking many more questions as I go along with this rebuild.
Thanks
bochnak Jan 26th, 07, 8:59 AM There are screws you can buy that will replace your missing pins. I can imagine they would be pretty hard to install with the windshield in place.
alstoy66 Jan 26th, 07, 9:59 AM Timing was perfect on getting the feedback They are installing the screws with the clips this morning and the windshield this afternoon.
Everything went good. and fit.
Thanks
6ELKY7 Sep 12th, 11, 4:37 PM Having same issue. My windshield was replaced by the previous owner. I see no indication through the miles of sealer around the windshield that there are clips or studs. Any advice or pictures of where to put the screw in studs would help.
Thanking you in advance!
