: Bellhousing broke all the way around why?

I have a 66 El Camino 383 stroker w/ a 2004r transmission, I just had it repaired, broke the input shaft or something, and by the time I got it home the entire bellhousing broke all the way around. I have never had this problem for over 1 year of hard driving on this same transmission case. The transmission shop is telling me that I need to run a loose setup in the back where the trans can move up and down slightly, they also say that the 2004r setup has the crossmember too far back and thats the problem I had. Is it coincidence that their theory hit me 10 miles after installing their transmission or just me?

Time Out-Talk to the owner of the shop and tell him that the bell housing was installed wrong with the transmission. If he moans and groans about it contact the Better Business Bureau and give them the information. Someone screwed up-BIG TIME.

Or the bell bolts are (were) left not snug, that will crack the bell.

Got any pictures?

So, they are blaming the breakage on a solid tail shaft bushing? Is that really what you have? Not just rubber or poly, but actual metal on metal.
