I tried to find some of my pics that i have posted in the showroom for reference but it has changed.

I'm ready to start the major body work that needs to be done.
What i need to do is make a clean straight cut on my a-pillars.I have to cut them completly out and replace them. The pillar is so irregular im having trouble figuring how to cut it off straight. If it isn't straight the replacement won't fit right.I'll try to get some links in a few minutes and post them.

Thanks.

Here is one pic ,you will have to copy and paste it since geocities doesn't like direct links.

You can see where it has been cut in the middle.I now have the complete pillars from my parts car cut off.

I can't see the pics you posted and I'm no expert, but since the question is so lonely I'll take a stab at it. What I would suggest is use cardboard to make a template of the cuts you have on your replacement A-pillar. Take accurate measurements and tape the template onto your car. If you do it accurately you will be able to get a snug fit and hence a cleaner and stronger weld. Hammer welding will make a stronger weld as well. I would also only cut and replace one side at a time in order to maintain body integrity. As for making the cuts I hear that a sabre saw makes a clean cut. That's my 2 cents, maybe others with actual experience can chime in.

Time to start Measuring, Measure Measure Measure. This has this all your worst dreams rolled into one. Try this approach, if you use a sawzall or grinder to cut this out. Tape the line you need to follow, measure the size of the part to be installed, cut the pillar slightly smaller than the new part. If you cut the opening to small you can grind to size, to big and your in deep. Have lots of time dedicated to grind and weld. Check the openings before you weld solid only tack untill your 100% sure this is right. This is just a time consuming job the more time spent getting it in right cuts the time spent correcting the error of your ways. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thats where the problem is.There's not many places to get a good measurement from. The only sure spots are where the screw holes are for the pillar covers and also the metal cover for the drip rail. There arn't any other points to measure from except if you cound the trim studs, which i don't think are the same on both sides.Someone with some chopped top experience would be nice.It had already been cut and put back together in ones place at the a-pillar but its alittle off.NOW im going to have two places on either side to align. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
