Any one running an aftermarket carb with electric choke with a factory cowl induction air cleaner? I just added a factory cowl hood and air cleaner to my 72, but the air cleaner will not fit over my edelbrock 750's electric choke without a 3/4 spacer between carb and air cleaner. The spacer makes the air cleaner too high and the hood will not close. I even took out my 3/8 heat insulator between carb and intake. The RPM intake is .50 taller than a stock intake. The wife does drive this car on ocassion and it does see cool evening cruises, so electric choke is preferred over manual.

You shouldn't have any problem with a Holley or Demon with an electric choke.

Do you need the full 3/4" your spacer is providing? You may be able to make it work with a little here and a little there.
What is the diameter of the filter element in the factory housing? I run the typical 14" open style with a bit of dimpling in the base to clear my Edelbrock choke housing. The choke on these carbs is a real pain... probably does not fit any of the Edelbrock filter bases either. You would think that in over 30 years of production somebody would have changed the height of the choke and fixed this problem.

I never looked close but I think the 1/2" spacer was not enough and the 3/4" worked. With no spacer, the air cleaner seal is pretty tight against the hood. The first time I closed the hood with the seal cold, it was alomost too snug. I heated it up with a hair dryer and it closed nicely. Yes it is a 14x3 element with a K&N open top also. I think I will get out the ball peen and go to work. That was my first thought, but will revisit it tomorrow. I would love a Holley 4160 carb with a proform body making it a 4150, but I just spent too much on my motorcycle

edelbrock makes a filter base that's 3/8" taller than a standard aftermarket drop base. It clears the choke fine. You have to dig some in the edelbrock catalog to find it, on the same page as the fuel line fittings that fit with an air cleaner on.
