I just cleared out the interior of my new Laguna. Someone had done a poor job converting a saddle interior to black. I have a good black interior from my other 74 but one sticky point is the seat belts. One of my rear retractors got mangled via air chizel blasting with the black belts, and the new car has saddle ones. I was also wondering at what point do you need to replace the belt webbing from a 30 year old car or 40 years old for some of you guys with the older ones.
I saw links to http://www.ssnake-oyl.com/ I guess that ain't a cheap way to go. I can probaly fix or find another black rear retractor but they are faded somewhat and the buckles could use some love etc...
So.... are the 30 year old belts ok??

Just Use some Ritz Black Dye.. Works great.. Wouldn't worry to much about the webbing unless it is visually fraying and damaged.
Here is a pictures of my belts that I dyed. The Left was like a blued out black, the center is the dyed belt, and the right is a sun killed belt (Basically Olive Green).

Thanks, I will Dye the black belts for the front and buckles, and use the rear retractors with the tan belts and dye them. That way if they look off somewhat they are not visible unless in use.

Sounds like a plan!
Just be sure to use the Ritz Liquid Dye (hourglass shaped plastic container). The powder can be a mess.
If you would like the steps on how I did mine, LMK,

I heard that seatbelts lose their strength pretty fast. Might be why drag racers have to continually update their belts.

I had heard that too, which propted my post here. Any other takers on this question?? Most of you guys are driving around with seat belts 10 years older, and without the Suburban crushing urethane front end !!
