Great place. I don't know jack about cars. I feel like I'm in sane. Just bought a 71 chevelle for $1700.00. v8 307 no exhaust system, no rug, no headliner, no battery, bondo 1/4 panals, no wheatherstripping in trunk, trunk lids bent. Use to be a rag top. Seats tore up pretty good. Anyway it runs and doesn't leak. Did I get ripped? I took out the seats and sound barrier to find the usual hole in the floor pan drivers side, pans in the back rotted through where the support brace is. The brace seems solid but is rust covered. I just bought an angle grinder, spent 200+ on por-15 products and ordered floor pans full lenght. And I'm currently shopping for a mig. Are we all in the same boat?

Well, the nice thing about buying or owning a car like that is you will soon be an expert at anything car related! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif I've owned mine for 31 years and have learned alot of new skills, skills totally unrelated to my vocation. But now I can say that I know "Jack" about cars! Good luck! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Welcome to a GREAT site. I'm shure we can help answer most q's that come up. This is a really great group of people. I pretty much jumped into restoration the way you did. Didnt have much of an idea about body work. Not bashing ya or anything but this would probably be best in the Bench Racing forum. Once again, welcome http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif And on the question of migs I'm kinda partial to the miller 130, do a search there was quite a bit of discussion about it a few days ago.

ABC - Welcome to the best site on the Web! As for getting bent on the price, probably not. I spent waaaayyy too much on mine. But, you will learn more about it than you could possibly imagine.
The POR is good stuff, just make sure you apply it AS directed!
Good luck and keep us posted on the progress!

I'd say you're definitley in the right spot for saving that machine. I am in the saem boat (sort of) as you. When I bought the car new very little other than the history of chevelles and the fact that I wanted one ever since I knew how to say chevelle. Learn more and more everyday, mostly from doign stuff bass akwards and having to fix my fixes.
Everybody here is full of info and there is no better place, IMO, to learn all that you want to know. Nothing is a better teacher than experience and the crew here has tons of it. GL with the project, be seeing ya's around.
