Was the quarterpanel replaced? I replaced a rear quarter on my Elky with an aftermarket piece and had a similar problem only with about a 3/4" gap up at the door handle. I also rebuilt my hinges but the door I'm using came from a parts car which may be added to the misfit. I took my hot wrench(torch) and sloted the holes in the hinges to allow more rearward movement of the door but still ended up having to build up the jamb with filler to make the fit look right. The second link in my signature has a pic of that side of my Elky, if you look closely you may be able to see where I added filler from the door handle down about 12".

This goes to prove something I have posted here many times and gotten flake about...NEVER REPLACE A QUARTER OR ANY OTHER WELD ON PANEL OFF THE FRAME YOU ARE GOING TO USE! The body needs to be bolted down on the new rubbers you will use. You may also need to shim the cowl some how to make this work. I have never done it in an "A" body, but on early cars like a '34 Ford it is a given that you shim the body bolts to make the doors fit.

By the way, forget building up the jam with plastic filler, just take a cut off wheel and split the quarter panel at the edge and move ti to where it has to be and weld it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Now you tell me. Everybody at the Autobodystore board said use filler! Where were you that day? Even if I do as you are suggesting There will still have to be a lot of filler used because the quarter's edge where it turns into the jamb does not go all the way to the inside corner of the jamb. I can still do this if you think its really prudent. I started to tack weld a piece of metal over the guater then fill over it would that be acceptable? Why is just using filler such a problem? I used a good quality filler, Evercoat Z Grip, is that acceptable? At the worst spot I ended up with about a 1/4" of filler which tapers down in about 12".

As I have also posted many times, plastic filler used properly will out last the car. BUT, that is properly. 1/4" is pushing it, and it depends on where also. As you have described, it will probably be just fine. And if you were to make a piece and weld it over or split it and weld it as I said before improperly......it would be worse. So just stick with the plastic filler, that is what I like to call the "bestest fastest way" http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
