What is the proper procedure to remove the lock unit from the ignition switch? The lock unit won't slide out when I depress the latch mechanism with a metal pin through the hole.

Is there a trick to get it to slide out, or am I doing something wrong?

Put the key in the ignition, and when you push in the pin you should be able to turn the key (don't remember which direction) and as you are turning it pull outwards and the cylinder should pop right out...

Remember to put key in, turn to accesories, push pin in, turn further counterclockwise, remove cylinder.

Take the door lock out, then take it and have a couple of keys made, might do the job? Around $10

on my 66, i had to use the drill press, one bit size at a time. Take your time and you can get it out without damaging the switch
Use a drill press vise to hold it.

Need to pull it from the dash first by unscrewing the nut and unplug the ele.connection. then it will come out from behind the dash

Or just by the new switch and lock cyl. they are pretty cheap.
