OK...I have a problem with my front fenders lining up on my 72 Elky. These fenders are the originals and fit good before I tore the car apart. I have lined them up at the door and everything is looking good but now the fender is sticking up 2" in the front where the 2 core support to fender screws are supposed to go. If I tweek the fender to get the bolts started it bulges out in the center. This can't be right!
The car is up on jack stands in the front but I don't see how this could make a difference.
Should I loosen the tention on the core support mounts and see if this makes a difference.
WhaddoIdo???
Thanks 7T2SS

In your assembly, I'll bet it shows shims under the radiator core support to lift it. Two inches is a lot though. Did you change the body mounts? Are they all tight? Sounds like the body is sitting too high off the frame in the front..

No...I haven't changed the body mounts and they are tight. I have an idea that the frame is flexing in front as I have the jack stands holding up the car just behind the front wheels. I am gonna put the tires on the car and let it down to see if that is the prob.

Take the car off the jackstands, it flexs more than you would think

do you have the rubber bushing for the core mounts in correctly?

Ok...I put the tires on the car and set it on the ground. That did help a little, so I noticed an up and down adjustment on the core support bracket right above the core supprt mount...so I loosened the 2 bolts and pulled the core up..that made a little more difference. Now I am about an inch shy of making things work without any force..but I want to get it closer. What do I use to shim the core support. Do I use the same U shaped fender shims.?
I think I have the support mounts in right...one rubber biscuit on the frame and one on the core support top to sandwich the core in..right?
PS...you're right the frame does flex alot, when it is supported by jacks behind the wheels!

7T2SS I used some big galvanized washers from Home Depot. It's a PITA because you have to remove the bolt to add/subtract but they're a lot thicker than the fender shims. I almost ran out of bolt by the time I had it shimmed enough. I didn't remove the old core support, car was in pieces when I bought it, but I think I installed the bushings the right way. I also loosened up the angle bracket on the front of the fenders that bolt to the core support in order to slide the fender up as high as possible. Don't know how a 72 bolts up.

EDIT: As I recall one of the 2 biscuits will compress more than the other. I put that one on top of the bracket and the other underneath. Seemed like it didn't pull the core support down as much when I reversed them.

Thanks for the info...by adjusting the angle bracket and the shims on the core support I have the fender in the right position....now for the hood....
Thanks again,
