Had another roof skinned on the wife's Elky. Job came out great. Small problem is some of the pop rivots holding down the molding clips are not water-tight. I was thinking about applying JB Weld on the rear of the rivots. There's no headliner yet. The body shop guy says to use a seam sealer. Opinions?? Won't the softer seam sealer work loose over time?

John, wouldn't the expansion and contraction of the rivets and the roof at diferent rates eventually crack a rigid substance like JB Weld?

Thanks..thermal coefficient of expansion would cause a problem. Didn't think of that. Yes, getting him to do something about the rivots or replacing them is an option, but he's an hour away. Sounds like seam sealer may do it like he suggested.

John,
Go with the seam sealer. I had used rivets for the clips around the windshield in my car and they leaked also. I spread a thin coat of seam sealer and BANG, no more leaks.

Thanks all. Plan to apply a lot on the inside of the upper rivots and maybe dab a little on the rivot outside.
There's always clear silicone, John. Will also last unill the next ice age. They didn't have that when seam sealer was invented.
Just a thought.

I vote for seam sealer, that stuff stays flexible enough to allow for movement and lasts forever, well 30 or 40 years anyway.
