I've read several different posts about the bus that sold for $4 million at B-J auction. Anyone have a picture or a link to this thing?

Thanks

Oh, and I only have about a month left over here...I can't wait to get home to the good ole U.S. of A.

Here is a picture of the 1950 GM Futureliner getting a police escort to its new home in Chandler, Arizona after the BJ auction.

Here is the story:

Edit: How many other auction cars from BJ do you think got driven home?

Jimmy P: Nice Steeler shot.I've noticed from your posts your quite the Steeler fan. Same here. Don't want to make you jealous but I'm also a season ticket holder and have been for past 13 years. Rarely miss a home game ( in person ) and never miss watching the road games cause always televised. There was a pep rally held in Heinz Field last Night and they had 35,000 people show up for it. This is definately their year. You should make it back to the Burgh sometime for a game.

chevelledude71: That's a nice looking Chevelle. I love the color, don't see too many painted in that color. I've got the same wheels on my 69.

Maybe so, Freddy, but I'll bet they make it back in promotional fees! It also may give the other 2 or 3 existing units a boost to get them done. It's still a great piece of Americana.

Those were some great Futurliner links.

I wonder if the buyer was aware that so many of the Futurliners still exist (like eight out of the original 12) - because that kind of purchase money is normally associated with more exclusive vehicles.

The purchaser knows VERY WELL what he purchased. He also bought the Olds F88 Concept last year (3 million) and he bought the Bonneville concept car this year (also about 3 million.) All 3 of these vehicles used to "tour" together back in the early 50's, that's why he wanted it so bad-- gotta round out the collection, as it were.

Also, this guy bought 51 other cars last year at B-J in addition to dropping the 3 million on the Olds. I don't know his total this year, but I'm sure it's up there.

Thanks, the reason is...it's a Ford Mustang color :) I had a 01 GT, Zinc Yellow and the body shop where I found the Chevelle had already prepped the car to be painted this color. I just happened to get "stuck" with the color. The body shop owner said, "You can pay to have the color changed if you want." I said no thanks and took it from there. The body shop owner and the previous owner had worked out a deal a long time before I bought it, so the prep work was already paid for...paint job included. All I did for him was give him a box of MRE's for putting on the stripes. He could have bought the MRE's at a Surplus store, but it was worth it for me. I love those wheels too, my dad had a pair of Bob Glidden drag stars on his Monte Carlo back in 97, and these were the closest things I could find to match them. Considering they were basically the same wheel, minus the BOB GLIDDEN sticker that was my dad's wheels. I was going to go with Drag Lites, but I had them on my other Mustang and they were a pain in the rear to clean, so I went with the one's I have now.

I've been to two games at Hienz Field this year. The Bears game with the blizzard going on was AWESOME! Plus the Bus had a 100 yard game that day!

I'm back home at least four times a year. I watched the pep rally on WTAE live, and I saw the povertyneck hillbillies (the were the band at the pep rally) played in the Washington township firehall that's two blocks from my dad's house.
I'm ALL Pitsburgh, all the time! Now, I'm going to have to take some of those tickets off your hands next year. At a decent price of course! ;>)

The guy that bought the bus was not the same guy that bought the Olds last year for $3M. The following was posted on another site about the buyer.
James

Ron Pratte ended up with the bus. He started his private car collection at B-J 2003 by buying 52 cars during that auction, then sold his construction business here last year and moved back to Phoenix. He recently built a nice exhibit hall/building in metro Phoenix with museum intents. His collector interests are diverse, with everything from old fire trucks to muscle cars to new exotics, so it should be interesting when he's done
