I'd like to replace my dash clock and some burnt dash lamps. Top dash pad is off but how to remove the main dash panel is another story... Is there any way to remove the main dash with the instrament cluster without dropping the steering column? It looks pretty straigh forward aside from that particular bolt. (apologies to moderator - I think I originally posted this in the wrong place...)

Why should it be a problem to lower the colom? Only remove the cover plate and loosen the 2 bolts. The colom will lower on your seat...
Without lowering the colom I think it's a pain in the *** to remove the comlete dash. Plus you will scratch your colom and thats not a pretty site.
Good luck!

There is a bolt for the dash above the steering column that you will not be able to get out if you don't lower the column.

If you decide to remove the entire dash, it is held in with six bolts: two on the left, two on the right, and two on the center/passenger side. You will need to lower the steering column to remove the dash. As described, it is fairly easy to lower the column by loosening the firewall steering column plate and then removing the two nuts holding the column up to the dash. I was able to remove my 70's entire dash for the first time in about two hours without help.
Be sure to disconnect the battery before working on the steering column.
The dash has a lot of electrical and vacuum connections, so it's good practice to label everything as it is disconnected. Take pictures of the assembly if you can.

Thanks. I had everything figured, but forgot about the firewall plate. A learning experience.
