: Warped intake

Hello everybody,

Has anyone ever had a warped dual-plane intake from over-tightening?

My ZZ454 came as-shipped with the center bolts at almost 80 ft.lbs and with the end bolts 10 lbs to finger-tight. These mills come with a bow-tie version of the Performer RPM.

I'm dealing with major smoke at idle on this new but out-of-warranty engine.
Somehow, I just get the feeling deep down that it is not rings, even though there is some blow-by (although not that much). It doesn't smoke when you accellerate, and very little when you are driving down the road. This engine is only blowing at idle.

I re-sealed the intake and ran it with new Fel-Pro 1210s (big mistake on the alum heads. will use Print-O-Seals or Ultra-Seals this next time coming up, when I pop on a new out of the box intake (Air Gap RPM)).

No cure for smoke. .

But.... now after sitting for two weeks the gasket on each side of the engine is all discolored from what appears to be oil dampness (where you can see the gasket above the intake flange) in the center of each head. Total time: ten minutes running, 2 weeks sitting. The gaskets look like they are wicking oil, only in the center 2 bolt areas, dry between, and equal appearance on both side of the engine. This is where the intake had been severely over-torqued. There is no leak from the valve cover above on each side. When I shut the hood 2 weeks ago the Fel-Pros were the nice new blue, but now they are damp.

Also, the center 4 intake bolts on the GMPPD aluminum heads are blind... meaning that the old problem of oil coming up from the threads and staining the intake by the carb is not an issue on these engines.
However, I am getting some oil starting to come up like on an old MkIV with unsealed bolts. Remember, this is where the intake was severely over-torqued.

To me, all these clues add up to a warped intake, and engine smoke would not be from rings.

Has anyone ever dealt with an issue like this?

Can you get blowby from a bad intake seal?

Thanks ! Due to my insane workload, I have little time to sit and figure !
