Someone give me some idea what I can use to paint my open trailer? Going to have it sandblasted. Has a diamond plat floor I installed couple years ago and never painted. Going to just be a driveway paint job but want it to be good and last. Not really up to speed on the latest paints out there. I was thinking an Emron? Any help would be great. graemlins/hurray.gif

Do a search under "Painting car trailer" 7-04-2001 in the body shop forum under my number tech reg. 6929 . Sorry, I don't have the skills to provide a link. :D

Years ago I had one sandblasted and did an outdoor paint job on it. I primered it and used regular enamel (I think it was Dupont Centari) with hardener. The key is the hardener. It held up fine til I sold it about 3 years later so don't know how long it lasted. Today's single stage urethanes would probably resist fade and scratches better but be more expensive.

Sandblasted bare metal, (following the tech sheets of the products you are using of course) etch primer, one coat, epoxy primer, two coats, two coats urethane SS. No sanding, wham bam it is done.

"IMRON" is just a brand name and to tell you the truth you may have a hard time finding it. But DuPonts Imron, PPG's Delta, S-W Genisis, there are many. These are all pretty expensive paints. You could go to a "value line" like PPG's OMNI, DuPonts NASON, S-W's Dimension, and many others. They offer complete systems , the etch, epoxy and SS urethane that would provide you with a nice durable paint job. The high end stuff is always a better choice, but we are talking a LOT more money for the complete system. On a trailer, I would be leaning towards the "value line" stuff.

Click on "search" in the blue words above, just under the " Post a Relpy "

Then on the next page type "Painting car trailer" (without the quotes, or it will ONLY search for that exact phrase) and hit "Search" at the bottom of the page, forget about all the other stuff on the page, that is all you have to do.

After it performs the search it will give you a list of all the threads that contain those words. In this case, only one, yours.

Click on the thread you want, in this case there is only the one.

After that opens, copy and paste the address that appears in your browsers "window" for addresses at the top of your screen.

If don't know how to "Copy and paste" just write it down and then you can put it on the next window.

After you have it saved, just close that window.

Come back to where you leave a reply such as I am doing right now. You can just put that URL (address) here like this

http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/3/3927.html?#000000

Or you can click on the URL button next to the "Graemlins" under where you type your reply and put URL to that thread there. Click "OK" and then put what you want to call the link, in this case I put;
Painting a trailer link (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/3/3927.html?#000000)
That is all there is to it, just play with it and you will see. If you mess up, no one is going to take away your TC privileges or anything graemlins/thumbsup.gif

FWIW ....... having my trailer built right now, steel frame ,aluminum decking and will have the frame sprayed with 2 coats POR 15 ......I know it not uv tolorant but for the little bit of the frame that will be exposed to sunlight will topcoat after trailer done with correct POR product for finish coat ..... my experiance with POR is that it resists chipping extremely well and in fact a friends trailer that was powdercoated is chipped bad after a few years so for less money trying POR 15, Bill

Thanks MartinSr (Brian). Until four years ago (when I got this computer) most of my computer experience was with a Coleco Vision, which I still have. :D

If it were mine I'd buy some PPG EPX-900 epoxy primer, about $96 for two sprayable gallons, then apply PPG Omni MTK single stage urethane paint over the epoxy. The end results will be much better than a POR 15 job and shouldn't cost over $200.
