: HR antiroll bar is here
Bob West Jan 27th, 06, 8:06 AM Any tips tricks or other helpful hints upon installation? Did you all measure from the frame for installation of the front upper link mounts, then out to either side for the bolt holes? It looks like they've made a minor adjustment to the part that goes/bolts around the rearend housing, additional washers/spacers to allow more movement and less binding while launching or driving on the street. It looks to be a quality piece
blue66 Jan 27th, 06, 10:19 AM I bolted mine up to the axle, measured and centered everything and marked and drilled the holes. So far I love it!!
One thing I am doing is putting in reinforcements for the sway bar mounts and upper control arm mounts in the stamped crossmember though. Triangulating to the frame rails.
Putting the axle mounts outboard as far as possible will give you the best torque transfer. Then make sure the link mounts are perpendicular to the bar itself, when mounting to the frame. When you set it up, set one side and bolt up then adjust the other until the bolt slides thru.

I agree! but I didn't see the need for re-enforcing the frame section on my application. It already had gussetts from the factory.
Bob...I'm curious about the changes you've mentioned. Shoot me a pic of two after the install, please.
EMcIllece Jan 27th, 06, 6:49 PM Which one did you get Bob? Just curious.

There's only one bolt-in HR Parts anti roll bar offered for a '68-'72 A body, correct?

Where does it state he has a H&R Parts anti roll bar?? That was my question, what brand?

They do only make one for the A bodies. They put an addendum to the instructions, adding a spacer to the part that clamps around the housing, so it doesnt bind as much, supposed to be better all around, especially for the street. I am going to install it this weekend, if my camera doesnt quit on me I'll take some pics. You might be able to get updated instructions Bill if you email them???
JOHN WILSON Jan 27th, 06, 9:40 PM When you set it up, set one side and bolt up then adjust the other until the bolt slides thru.
Bob, have someone sitting in the drivers seat when you do this step. I think the destructions tell you this but I can't remember fo sho.
Bob West Jan 27th, 06, 10:07 PM yes it did John,,,said for final adjustment, set it up neutral with my weight in the drivers seat.

Bob's topic title...HR antiroll bar is here
Bob West Jan 28th, 06, 12:27 PM Bill I have the updated instructions sitting here in front of me, it shows how the pieces go together that go around the bar and over the rearend housing, has a picture of assembly order. It has a NOTE off to the side pointing at the spacer plate that used to go in between the Gold poly bracket and lower axle bracket, the NOTE says "new spacer plates have been updated from ones shown to 2 large O.D. thin flat washers for each side(one washer per bolt)" then the note at the bottom says "The new spacer washers are designed to lower the tension on the swaybar, allowing it to move more freely. This reduces the drag on the suspension, allowing more weight to transfer quicker, resulting in additional traction, lower ET's and a smoother ride on the street" From what I can tell the old spacer plate use to press against the poly bushing that goes around the bar itself, with washers on either side now, there is less tension placed against the bar allowing it to mover a little easier.
Bob West Jan 28th, 06, 10:43 PM It is in, piece of cake to install. We've had a mild winter to this point after a cold December, 1/4 mile track opens a week from tomorrow, all I have left is to test drive the new converter, test the brakes and change the oil, anyone want to bet that we get snow? oh yeah, its been raining all day:angry:
EMcIllece Jan 29th, 06, 9:57 AM I guess it would help if I read the title:clonk:
Bob West Jan 29th, 06, 9:12 PM I drove the car today, I like the converter it seems to flash 46-4800, I like the HR bar, the brakes work, not quite as good as the power brakes and the manual steering will take some getting used to, much easier to steer though. A couple of my kids went with me so I didnt really get on it, but did take it to 6k a couple times, recovered nicely on the shift. If the weather is nice, we'll find out what happens next sunday, right now calling for 50* and sunny :D
blue66 Jan 29th, 06, 9:51 PM What converter did you put in, and how is it on the street being that loose?

Bob West Jan 29th, 06, 10:53 PM ATI 8" MRT(the tightest 8" they make) and its fine on the street for cruising around town, I wouldnt want to drive 50 miles with it, unless I had a real BIG cooler. As far as street manners I couldnt tell any difference from the 10" ATI it replaced.
mc71454 Jan 29th, 06, 10:56 PM Thumbs up Bob...
Odering my HR bar soon too
Bob West Jan 29th, 06, 11:07 PM It sure stiffens up everything(prevents twist) Tom. I had a jack under the passengers side frame below the door hinges checking some stuff out, had the right front a couple inches off the ground and the left front was just about ready to come off the ground. Kinda like the tests they did on their website, now if it will plant the tires consistently, maybe a 1.4x 60ft, I'll be tickled to death :D
DragRacer Jan 30th, 06, 12:10 AM Bob,
Sounds like some new best ETs are in your future.
I'm guessing 10.87 @ 123 MPH, 1.46 - 60'
Good luck!

Bob was thinking more in the 124 MPH range. ;)
SS_Sean Jan 30th, 06, 12:04 PM Post up some pic's and let us know how it goes, Bob.
mild68ss Jan 30th, 06, 5:32 PM Bob, while driving on the street did you notice that the bar made noise?
I have a noise every now and then that sounds kinda like something hitting the cage.
I think it's the antiroll bar.

Could be the rear bars rubbing the package tray. I had that happen on mine.

No noises here, there is no way the HR antiroll bar can get near my rollbar. With all the whale snot in the bushings, that stuff is nasty!!, they better not make any noises.
SS_Sean, install pics or racing pics? I need to dig out the camera and see if I can get the batteries to charge up for it. I'm not sure if I'll have an audience at the track to take any pics there, we'll see. Alot of the guys I race with are scrambling to get their cars back together for this weekend.

Thanks I'll check that. I kinda doubt it though.

I didn't mean that it was actually hitting, but the noise travels through it.
Bob West Jan 30th, 06, 11:29 PM I can't say that I noticed any new noises, just the howling noise from the rearend on decelleration, guess I'm gonna have to live with that. Do you have the HR bar on your 69 too? The car looks good!! How does it run?
SS_Sean Jan 31st, 06, 1:19 AM SS_Sean, install pics or racing pics?
Install. Thanks.

Bob, Thanks.
I'm not sure of what brand it is. If I were to guess I'd say it's an Alston kit.
The car has run 8.4's @ 163 (8.4@163) with a 540 before I got it. Now I have a stock ZZ502 in it and run it as a street car. I only ran it a few times and it ran a best of 11.93. I'd say 11.70's are in line the way it is.
