Hey guys,
I just started a manual conversion in an 82 Vette. Doing everything backwards, I already bought the pedals,... refurbished them, and installed them along with a master cylinder. Now heres the problem. I originally had the intent of rebuilding a T5 World Class Borg Warner out of a late 80's Camaro to be installed in this Vette. The car is supposed to be a fun budget project so I really don't want to spend $1500+ on this conversion. I am concerned that the T5 won't hold up to the type of driving I intend to use it for. I have plans to build a SBC 350 that will make 350 horsepower, and probably around the same amount of torque. Not all that violent but a sufficient amout of power. The rear is being switched to a 3.70 posi. Now heres the thing,... I don't intend on using the car for racing but I want to be able to take it to the track once or twice a year.... I also like to leave rubber on the ground now and again.
I was hoping to save money on the rebuild by doing it myself in school, and also to gain the experience and the grade. I am leery of spending too much on parts if its going to be done in school for obvious reasons.
Anyway,... Not really sure what my other options are... 5 or 6 speed is fine... I need the overdrive option. Do they sell the parts at a reasonable price to strengthen up this transmission or are my options limited???
Thanks again
Dan
