ss396boy Feb 20th, 02, 12:25 PM Nice work Lee. I enjoy looking at your webpage to check in on the progress you are making. I would love to attempt what you are doing at home there but I'm a little worried about the amount fumes. Hopefully, you have cool neighbors and they put up with your hobby.
Just curious, what did you use to mask off the underside/engine bay of the car to prevent overspray?

Buddy Feb 20th, 02, 5:17 PM I love that color! I have Blue Pearl Metallic but i think If i was going to do it again, Id use the same one as yours.
good color choice ;)
budruski Feb 20th, 02, 9:17 PM color looks great. i just went through your site and noticed that your new fenders fit as good as mine. i bought mine at ausleys chevelle but they all come frome the same place. i was told they fit better than the last batch. it took me two days to line everything up and a dozen wallow bits. i would hate to see how the last batch fit. anyway the car looks great and cant wait to see the final. im getting closer myself.

70_chevelle Feb 21st, 02, 10:03 AM ss396boy - The fumes are no problem, I filter most overspray before it leaves the booth plus it's winter here and everyone is indoors! I just masked the frame rails like normal with the expectations of getting the car on the lift and doing some touch up work when I'm done. I plan on shooting the rest of the car mid next week, I can't wait.
buddy - thanks, I love the color too but it has cost me more than expected, I'm not sure if it's because I don't know what I'm doing and wasting a lot by not getting it on the parts or what, but I've had to go back for more a few times. So far about $1300 in paint and supplies, this is discounted too.
budruski - It's a shame they can't get the fenders right, I too would hate to see the early style. Your car looks great, did you paint it yourself?

ss396boy Feb 21st, 02, 11:41 AM Just curious, I was going to get a new spray gun. Are you using the same gun to spray the primer and topcoat?
I am thinking of the Finishline gravity fed gun.
70_chevelle Feb 21st, 02, 12:12 PM normie - I checked them out a while back and their prices are not even close to what I paid for them here, plus they charge a ton for freight because of the hazardas materials.
ss396boy - Yes, I'm using the Sata Jet with a 1,4 nozzle. It appears to work just fine for both but since I don't have experience with anything else I can't compare.
So far I've primed with 3 coats and blocked, 3 coats and blocked... I'm exhausted! I will prime one more time with 2 coats then wet sand with 400 then HOK sealer. Then mid next week I'll shoot the final paint. Thats not going to be fun, the plan I have is 3 coats snow white pearl base, 5 coats cobalt blue and three coats clear. Then wet sand with 400 and then lay down the stripes in snow white pearl then 3 coats clear, wet sand with 400 then 2 coats of their UFC-35 clear, wet sand again with 1500 then 2000 then buff, man I'm in for some work...

ss396boy Feb 22nd, 02, 12:27 AM Lee, sounds like you need to find a TC'er to come over and help you out!
Man, that sounds like a lot of paint you are gonna be spraying. See if you can buy another pair of hands. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
