I have a strange question and opportunity.
I have a 1972 chevelle convert. With a blown 350 non original motor.
I have another 350 to drop in but I want something a little different and a little more powerful.
So here is what I have....
Rebuilt turbo 350 trans in my car already and a rebuilt 1965 Caddy 429...(the opportunity) Do these fit together?
I have been searching for the trans the 65 caddy came with with no luck
I can have the whole drivetrain If I want..eng, trans and rear end.
I am sure I can get it to go in but don't really want to waste my trans I just spent all that money on.

Let me know
Thanks

The caddy should have a TH-375/400 (3L80) transmission in it. So I'd assume the bell housing bolts would line up and everything just work. I would be cautious about all of the other work required to shoe-horn that motor into your car. I think the money you put into that could go towards building a 454motor with better power.

Even the distributor is on the wrong end of the motor. ;)

I'm certainly not an expert on this, but I have read several articles about the Caddy engine swap. I believe you will need some kind of bellhousing adapter though. I was actually considering this swap a long time ago, but I think the adaper was the reason why I didn't pursue it. This was in the 80's and 90's, so I don't remember all the details.

I believe the swap was originally intended to get a lot of cubes by using a cheap standard production engine in a relatively small envelope (if I remember correctly, those big cube Caddy engines are smaller than a Chevy BB). There are hi-perf parts on the market, but you're probably better off with a Chevy BB if you want more hp.

It would make a nice conversation piece though... :)

If you ever want to sell it, swaps like this are not appealing. Use the 350/350 - much better resale value.

Good thinking....about the resale value.
I am probably going with the 350, maybe build to a 383
Thanks for the input.
