Guy who did the previous bondo job on the roof of my 71 did a terrible job in this small part, i just want to get the old stuff out and redo it myself. Would a point and chissel be the easiest way to get this stuff out? Also would it be easier to just by new repro door handles or just get the original ones rechromed? Thanks

With the door handles, you will probably come out cheaper with new ones....Depending how crappy the bondo job is, you may be able to chisle it out.

if the bondo is not too bad a DA sander with some 40 grit paper would eat that up in a flash. done the hammer and chizel and if it breaks up in small pieces its a disaster. also a 9 in grinder would make quiker too.

I have used a hand held torch befor to remove a large area of bondo. It makes it soft enough to scrape it right off.Takes it all the way down to the metal. The above ideas will work to ,but will leave some of it there. Good luck. Ed

Put the chisel away!!!
If you've got surrounding bondo you're planning to keep, you'd be running a pretty good risk of cracking the good stuff if you're planning to pound nearit.
A stiff wire brush on a drill will chew through the bondo pretty fast.
Just my .02. Good Luck.

Don't use the hammer and chisel you are sure to cause more damage. 3M "Clean and strip" discs work great as well as 3M "ROLOC" discs. They come in sizes down to 2" in diameter and can get into nooks and krannies good.

Another vote for the ROLEC discs. Chisel and torch is fine if you plan on destroying the car. You can get the rolec at any body shop supply store...Eric

Believe it or not, soda blasting will easily remove bondo as well as paint.

Torch does the work just fine for large/thick areas.....you just need to make sure to not get the metal to hot......fixing warpage from it would not be much fun

the clean and strip wheels are what we use at the bodyshop I work at.....very handy for rust also
